History of the Arica School

The Arica School was founded in 1971 by Oscar Ichazo, a Bolivian-born spiritual teacher. Ichazo had studied a variety of spiritual traditions, including Zen Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism, and Sufism. He developed his own unique system of teachings, which he called "Arica." The school's name is derived from the Arica region of Chile, where Ichazo first taught his system.

The Arica School quickly gained a following, and by the mid-1970s, it had centers in major cities around the world. However, the school also attracted controversy. In 1975, Ichazo was accused of plagiarism by the Indian spiritual teacher Swami Muktananda. Muktananda claimed that Ichazo had stolen his teachings and passed them off as his own. Ichazo denied the allegations, but the plagiarism scandal damaged the school's reputation.

In the 1980s, the Arica School faced further controversy when it was accused of misuse of its teachings. Some former students claimed that the school was using its teachings to control and manipulate its members. Ichazo was also accused of sexual abuse by several former students.

The Arica School has denied all of these allegations. It has also taken steps to reform its practices, including adopting a new code of ethics and appointing an independent ethics committee.

Teachings of the Arica School

The Arica School teaches that the ultimate purpose of human existence is to achieve self-realization. Self-realization is the process of becoming aware of one's true nature and potential. The school teaches that this can be achieved through a variety of practices, including meditation, yoga, and psychotherapy.

The Arica School also teaches that the world is a reflection of our own consciousness. The way we experience the world is determined by our own beliefs, thoughts, and emotions. The school teaches that we can change our experience of the world by changing our consciousness.

The Arica School's teachings are based on a variety of spiritual traditions. However, the school's teachings are unique in that they offer a systematic approach to self-realization. The school's teachings are also practical and accessible, making them suitable for people from all walks of life.

Practices of the Arica School

The Arica School offers a variety of practices to help students achieve self-realization. These practices include:

  • Meditation
  • Yoga
  • Psychotherapy
  • Dreamwork
  • Bodywork
  • Energy work

The Arica School's practices are designed to help students become more aware of themselves and their relationship to the world around them. The school's practices are also designed to help students overcome the obstacles that stand in the way of self-realization.

The Arica School is a legitimate spiritual organization that has been misrepresented by its critics. The school's teachings are based on a variety of spiritual traditions, but they are unique in that they offer a systematic approach to self-realization. The school's practices are designed to help students become more aware of themselves and their relationship to the world around them, and to overcome the obstacles that stand in the way of self-realization.
