Colonial America: A History to 1763 is a comprehensive and engaging account of the founding and development of the thirteen American colonies. Written by award-winning historian Alan Taylor, the book provides a vivid and detailed portrait of colonial life, from the earliest settlements in the 1600s to the outbreak of the American Revolution in 1775.
Taylor's book is divided into three parts. The first part, "The Founding of the Colonies," covers the period from the first European settlements in North America to the end of the seventeenth century. Taylor discusses the various motives that brought Europeans to the New World, the challenges they faced in establishing permanent settlements, and the development of the different colonial societies.
The second part of the book, "The Eighteenth Century," examines the growth and development of the colonies in the eighteenth century. Taylor discusses the economic, social, and political changes that occurred during this period, and he examines the growing tensions between the colonies and Great Britain.
The third part of the book, "The Road to Revolution," covers the period from the outbreak of the French and Indian War in 1754 to the outbreak of the American Revolution in 1775. Taylor discusses the causes of the war, the course of the fighting, and the impact of the war on the colonies. He also examines the growing sense of independence among the colonists and the events that led to the outbreak of the American Revolution.
Colonial America: A History to 1763 is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of the United States. Taylor's book is well-written and engaging, and it provides a comprehensive overview of the colonial period.
